If you are like most people with acid reflux, then the easiest way to find relief is to pop a few tablets of antacids or acid blockers. However, this is a short-term solution and you may suffer from unwanted side effects. You can find some remedies at home which are as effective as these medications. In addition, most of the time, you don’t have to worry about the side effects. In fact, you should be able to prepare your own home remedy with some of the common items in your kitchen.

Black strap molasses can be used as home remedy for acid reflux. The only thing that is going to bother you is the taste. It has the abilities to protect your esophagus by creating a protective layer due to its stickiness. It also heals any injured areas in your esophagus due to the exposure of stomach acid. Acid reflux can sometimes cause sore throat when you wake up in the morning. You can soothe it with black strap molasses. If you can’t tolerate the taste you can use honey instead. Honey shares similar traits as black strap molasses. For relief, just take at least 2 teaspoons a day.

Ginger root is a common ingredient in cooking. It helps to improve digestion, treat inflammatory and nausea. This is how you can prepare ginger root tea as home remedy for acid reflux. Peel the skin and rub the ginger root against a grater. Place the grated ones into a pot of boiling water. If you find it too strong or bitter, then add some lemon juice or honey. Ginger tea can be purchased any any health store but it may contain caffeine. As you know, caffeine can aggravate the condition of acid reflux.

Another kitchen item that you use to treat acid reflux is baking soda. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to 1/2 cup of water. Drink it and you will burp in a short while. This solution acts a buffer against the acid in the stomach. Never try to mix baking soda with vinegar. It can damage the mucous lining of your gastrointestinal tract.

These three ingredients are easily available at home and they don’t cost a lot of money. It just take a few minutes to prepare these simple home remedies to alleviate the symptoms of acid reflux. However, if they don’t work, then you need to see your doctor especially if your condition is severe. You may need proper treatments for acid reflux disease or gastroesophageal reflux disease which can lead to more serious complications.
